چکیده

In a single experiment, field-grown Louisiana sugarcane was augmented with phytoparasitic nematodes, treated with aldicarb, or left untreated in both weedy and weed-free habitats to study interactions among nematodes, weeds, sugarcane, and sugarcane free amino acid titers. Aldicarb reduced three of the six phytoparasitic nematode genera at various times during the two growing seasons and was associated with 17% more free proline in the sugarcane. Nematode augmentation resulted in higher field populations of Meloidogyne spp. Free cysteine, histidine, proline, and serine concentrations in sugarcane were lower where nematodes were added. Densities of Tylenchorhynchus annulatus and total phytoparasitic nematodes were lower in weedy habitats compared to weed-free conditions. Sixteen of the 17 sugarcane free amino acids were significantly lower in weed-free areas. It is suggested that further research be conducted on the relationship of plant stresses to free amino acid levels to better understand plant-mediated interactions among crop pests.

NEMATlClDE EXPERIMENTS IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN SUGAR INDUSTRY: 1971/72 By R. H. G. HARRIS South African Sugar Association Experiment Station

Excellent growth responses were achieved by treating a sugarcane plant crop with the following nematicides: Di-Trapex, EDB, aldicarb, a combination treatment of EDB and aldicarb and a combination treatment of soil and foliar applied oxamyl. Fairly satisfactory responses were obtained when using oxamyl as a foliar spray only, and as a soil treatment only, and as a foliar treatment in combination...

Distribution of plant-parasitic nematodes on sugarcane in louisiana and efficacy of nematicides.

A survey conducted from May 1995 through August 1998 revealed diverse nematode communities in Louisiana sugarcane fields. High populations of Mesocriconema, Paratrichodorus, Pratylenchus, and Tylenchorhynchus were widespread in nine sugarcane production parishes. Comparisons of plant cane and ratoon sugarcane crops indicated that nematode community levels increase significantly in successive ra...

The Evaluation of Growth Indices in Different Irrigation Systems and Weed Control Treatments and Correlation of Quantitative and Qualitative Traits of Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum)

In order to evaluate the growth indices of sugarcane in different irrigation systems, weed control treatments and correlative associations with quantitative and qualitative traits of sugarcane, an experiment was conducted as split plot based on randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications in 2020 at Sugarcane Development Research and Training Institute of Khuzestan, Ahwaz, Ir...

Effects of site-specific application of aldicarb on cotton in a meloidogyne incognita-infested field.

Cotton farmers in Missouri commonly apply a single rate of aldicarb throughout the field at planting to protect their crop from Meloidogyne incognita, even though these nematodes are spatially aggregated. Our purpose was to determine the effect of site-specific application of aldicarb on cotton production in a field infested with these nematodes in 1997 and 1998. Cotton yields were collected fr...
